Return To All Artists

The past is important because that is what we are made of. The future is important because that is what gives us hope.

As an artist I have been greatly influenced by Michelangelo’s sculptures, da Vinci’s drawings, Van Gogh’s paintings, Degas’ pastels, and all of the creation so evident in our Universe. I love the intricate details and quietness of nature and am constantly inspired by it. I know God is the greatest artist, I am merely moved to paint and draw by seeing what She/He has done first.

My passion for art set me on a path to become an Art educator in several public school systems. Whether teaching elementary art students or now working with my three grandchildren, art provides an insight into our world and provides a timeless connectedness.

I am the mother of four grown children. The youngest two are mentally and physically challenged adults, who still live with my husband and me in our Hoover home. Because of this family experience, we are very involved in supporting The Exceptional Foundation in Homewood, as well as the Bell Center for Early Intervention.

I’m a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, Boston; and also have an undergrad degree in History/Political Science from Samford University and studied for two years in at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, now part of George Washington University. I received my teaching degree through the University of South Florida.

Since 2003 I have been working with clients who approached me to do custom, commissioned artwork for them, first in Pensacola, Fl, and continuing here in B’ham. My husband was a Naval Flight Officer so we have lived all around the U.S. during our 27 years in the Navy together.

I have been very fortunate to have made countless friends and acquaintances through the many moves (18) and through creating artwork for clients. My watercolors are usually more detailed and realistic, while through my oils I hope to convey more of a mood, capture a moment, an attempt to represent the spirit of nature.

J. M. Barrie said “Nothing is work unless you would rather be doing something else.” I can’t imagine that I would ever rather do something else, something other than painting or drawing, creating art.
