In the words of Jamie Carnathan

I am a photographer based in Birmingham, Alabama. In 2014, I discovered a way to combine my love of photography and abstract art by layering my original photographs with other photographs, textures and colorful filters to create an abstract piece of art in the photography medium. I like the challenge of taking an ordinary photograph and turning into something completely different. While I mainly focus on my art photography, I have also developed a love of black and white photography. I started showing my black and white photography along with my art photography in late 2016. I print my photographs on high quality luster, metallic and canvas photography paper. All of my pieces are matted, signed and numbered. I usually display my photographs in frames but have recently branched out to canvas and metal printing.

My first solo exhibition, titled “Moving Forward”, took place at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham’s Gallery from May 2016 through July 2016. In May 2015 I was awarded a 3rd place ribbon in the photograph medium at the Art in the Park show in Jasper, Alabama. I have previously shown my work at Meccafest (2015); the Magic City Art Connection (2016-2017); Birmingham Art Walk (2016); and Moss Rock Art Festival (2016).
